RODNEY ROGERS

Bio//

Rodney Rogers began improvising at the piano at age four and composing as a young teenager. Studying composition throughout his high school and college years (BM, MM, PhD), his most influential teachers were D. Martin Jenni and Joseph Schwantner.  He won several national awards in composition from BMI and ASCAP during his college years. In his mid-twenties, he received a composition fellowship at Tanglewood and residencies at both MacDowell and Yaddo Artist Colonies. This period included numerous performances in New York City and his first publications (Alexander Broude, Schirmer/AMP). His teaching career began in 1980, first at LSU (Baton Rouge, LA), then Lawrence University (Appleton, WI), and finally at Arizona State University (Tempe, AZ), where he taught composition and analysis courses in the School of Music from 1987 to 2019. He currently devotes his time to composing, gardening, traveling, and hiking in the Southwest and West.
